Ben S. Harkless, 69, Rt. 3, Decatur, who was engaged in farming, was dead on arrival at the Adams County Memorial Hospital at 10:25 p.m. Friday. He had not been ill and death was unexpected.
He was a member of the Decatur United Brethren Church .
Born in Adams County on Aug. 6, 1911, he was the son of Clifford and Alvina Bucher-Harkless, and was married to Dorothy Fox on June 23, 1940; she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Paul L., Rt. 7, Decatur; Richard F., Rt. 3, Decatur; two daughters Mrs. Dean (Shirley) Fellers and Mrs. Paul (Sharon) Smith, both of Decatur; two sisters, Chloe Harkless, Rt. 3, Decatur; Mrs Lawrence (Faye) Michaels, Decatur; one brother, Jimmie G. Harkless, Rt. 3, Decatur; five grandchildren. One brother, Frank, preceded him in death.
Services will be held Monday at 1:20 p.m. at the United Brethren Church , with Rev. Sylvester Martin and Rev. Larry Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur Cemetery and friends may call at the Winteregg-Linn & Haggard Funeral Home after 10 a.m. Sunday. Preferred memorials are to the church of the donor's choice.
The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the services Monday.
