Smithsburg man dies after crash [Gina Gallucci News-Post Staff | Posted May 3, 2007]
HAGERSTOWN -- A Smithsburg man was killed about 1 p.m. today after a single vehicle crash on northbound Md. 66 near Mount Aetna Road, according to Maryland State Police.
Albert Louis Mumma Jr., 30, was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and driver fatigue might have caused the crash, police said.
Mumma, driving a 1998 Ford Ranger, was traveling north on Md. 66 when his vehicle crossed into the southbound lane, crossed the shoulder and took out 40 feet of a wooden fence, police said. A witness told police Mumma made no movements to avoid the crash.
Minutes before the crash, Mumma had left the Park and Ride on Md. 66 near I-70, police said.
