Notes:
The father of Rebecca Mumaw, b. abt. 1812 is unknown. When she married Henry Spitler in 1837, the bondsman was listed as, Christian Mumaw. This raises speculatin as to whether Christian was her father. Christian was unmarried at the time of her birth, but she is not listed in Christian's Will. Hie did name an illegitemate son in that Wil and since Rebecca was still living when he wrote his Will, he likely would have listed her as a daughter if she was.
Her son's death certificate (Mathias Spitler) lists his father as Henry Spitler and his mother as Rebe Moomaw. The informant was Alex Moomaw. Alexander Moomaw (1877- ) was the 2nd cousin of Mathias Spitler. Alex's branch was the only one to use the Moomaw spelling of the surname.

The birth year for Henry and Rebecca is based on the 1860 census information. Becasue they and their children were illiterate, there is great variability in the recorded ages in the census.
Rebecca and Henry Spitler are not found in the 1850 census.
