Maria Rose Tomaselli, 100, a guest at St. Luke Manor in Hazleton, went to Heaven late Thursday evening surrounded by her loving children, Clemie Yamona and her husband, Joseph, and two sons, Anthony, and Cosmo and his wife, Theresa.
Born in Fragagnano, Taranto, Italy, on Aug. 15, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Cosimina (Pitarra) Cavallo.
Maria Rose was honored on May 24 at the Hazleton Chapter of UNICO National Italian Heritage Festival as the oldest living female Hazletonian of Italian descent and for her dedication to her family and church.
She was a member of Most Precious Blood Church and its oldest parishioner.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Leo, in 1969; a granddaughter, Mary Lee Yamona Mumaw, in 2003; brothers, Giovanni, Luigi, Vito and Guiseppe, and sisters, Emma, Lydia and Carmellina Cavallo.
Surviving, in addition to her children, are great-grandchildren, Joel and Sam Jr. Mumaw in Albuquerque, N.M.; brothers, Enzo and Armando Cavallo, Taranto, Italy; and many nephews and nieces in Allentown, Philadelphia, New Jersey and Italy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 1 p.m. at Most Precious Blood Church.
Friends may call at the church from noon until the time of the Mass.
Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the charity of one's choice.
Joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th St., Hazleton, is in charge of arrangements.
