Charles Hannon Pointer IV
(Age 69)
Died at home in Vienna, VA on June 30, 2016 with his family at his side. Born in Tuscaloosa, AL to Charles Hannon Pointer, III and Elizabeth Peagler Pointer, he graduated from the University of Alabama - Roll Tide!
A career naval officer, he married the love of his life, JoEllyn Constantino Pointer, in 1972. They traveled the world together. Charlie was a great father to Carolyn and Chuck, passing along his spirit of adventure and love of cooking. Charlie was a Renaissance Man: woodworker, musician, builder, professor, dietician, hospital administrator, photographer, and an amazing cook. His deep faith was lived in his service to others.
PopPop built beautiful cribs and toys for his grandkids, and loved playing with them. Charlie is survived by his wife, JoEllyn; daughter, Carolyn Pointer and her husband, Scott Moomaw; son, Chuck Pointer and his wife, Katie Wilson; granddaughters, Eleanora and Natalia Moomaw; his namesake grandsons, Joshua Charles Moomaw and Augustus Hannon Pointer; siblings, Martha (Matt) Blue, Liba Cain, and Ferd (Linda) Pointer. He had a special friendship with his sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Benjamin Moomaw.
Charlie''s family will receive visitors at Our Lady of Good Counsel, Vienna, VA. at 10 a.m. on July 6. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Internment at Arlington National Cemetery, date and time to be determined. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Providence Health Foundation, 1150 Varnum St. N.E., Washington, D.C. 20017.
