WILLIAM MUMMA OBITUARY
William "Smitty" H. Mumma, 94, DuBois, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022 at the DuBois Nursing Home.
Born October 8, 1928, in DuBois, he was the son of the late Frank and Kathrin (Smith) Pernesky.
On October 1, 1955, he married Joanne (Dobson) Mumma in Clearfield, PA. Together they celebrated almost 70 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on April 16, 2022.
William graduated from the DuBois Area High School in 1948 and studied for two years at the University of Kentucky. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. William was employed by Consolidated Gas and later retired from Dominion Gas as a well tender/equipment operator. He enjoyed anything outdoors, including fishing in Sinnemahoning and hunting. William enjoyed watching old western movies, playing pool at the senior center, and swimming at the YMCA. He was a former Little League coach, longtime head coach of the Oklahoma Tigers and DuBois Panthers football teams, as well as a member of the Fourth Ward Hose Company, American Legion, and VFW.
William is survived by two children, William E. (Tina) Mumma and Stacey (Steve) Maleski, all of DuBois; two grandchildren, Danielle Mumma (Bobbie) Mozafari, Maryland, and William R. Mumma, DuBois, and two grandchildren, Caspian and Atticus Mozarfari. He is also survived by the remaining members of the Tom and Lois Donahue family. William was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents and wife, William was preceded in death by his step father, Frank Mumma, and aunt, Helen (Smith) Kopp.
There will be no public visitation or service. A private service will be held at the family's convenience. Interment will be in Salem Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Adamson Funeral Chapel and Crematorium.
