This is a second marriage for Jonathan. He had children from his previous marriage to Frances Tice who died in 1871. Barbara Mumma is 40 years old at the time of her marriage to Jonathan.
Note, the Groff book incorrectly identifies Barbara as "Maria Barbara Mumma, b. 9 Feb 1827, d. 18 Oct 1887". That book has her name incorrect as well as her birrth date. This is verified by the 1880 census shown below.

On the 25th ult., at the residence of the bride, by Rev. Mr. Long, Mr. JONATHAN SCHINDEL, of this town, and Miss BARBARA MUMMA, of Sharpsburg.

Mrs. Barbara Schindel, widow of the late Jonathan Schindel, died at her residence on West Washington street, Hagerstown, after an illness of about two months. Her disease was originally a severe attack of indigestion, but the direct cause of death was diphtheria. She was a daughter of the late Samuel Mumma, of Sharpsburg district, and a sister of Mrs. Elizabeth Grove, Mrs. Susan Thomas, Miss Alice Mumma, Messrs. Henry C., Samuel, Abraham and Daniel Mumma, of this county. Mrs. Cora Reichard, of Ohio, and Messrs. Z. T., William and Clinton Mumma, of California. The funeral will take place this morning at 10 o'clock; interment at Rose Hill Cemetery.
