HOUSTON - George W. "Bill" Jones, 91, of Houston, passed away at 12:47 a.m., Sunday, August 8, 2021 at the Dorothy Love Retirement Community. He was born June 16, 1930 in Shelby County to the late George E. and Sarah Catherine (Pickering) Jones. He married Olive F. "Ollie" Mumaw December 24, 1949; she preceded him in death April 26, 2017.
Survivors include a son, Terry (Karen) Jones of Piqua; a daughter, Susan (Bill) Rutherford of Houston; eight grandchildren, Jason (Joanna) Curl, Brian (Sandy) Curl, Michael (Trisha) Curl, Harry (Angie) Jones, Cyrus Jones, Renee Jones, Zack (Kelly) Freeling, Ashley Freeling; fourteen great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sally Curl.
Bill was a graduate of Houston High School. He worked as a Supervisor for the Stolle Corporation for 33 years, and was a farmer in Shelby County for many years having earned the distinction as an Ohio State Farmer of the Future Farmers of America. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. He loved helping people, playing cards, especially Euchre, Solitaire and Garbage, and working Word Find puzzles carried him through the pandemic. He was an avid bowler and an honorary member of the American Bowlers Congress, and enjoyed fishing with anyone especially his wife, Ollie. He did something with Ollie in his dreams almost every day since her passing in 2017. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 13, 2021 at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Daniel P. Hunt as the Celebrant. Burial will follow at Houston Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Church, 310 S. Downing St., Piqua, OH 45356.
