"Mrs. Elizabeth M. ?Betsy? (Mumma) Snively, 104, a resident of Quincy Village, Quincy, [Franklin Co.] PA and formerly of 117 West King Street, Waynesboro, PA, passed away Monday, December 27, 2010 in the nursing home. Born October 15, 1906 in Lititz, [Lancaster Co.] PA, she was the daughter of the late John G. and Anna Lizzie (Fisher) Mumma. She spent most of her life in the Waynesboro area. Mrs. Snively graduated as salutatorian from Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1924. She attended Wilson College, Chambersburg, PA and Waynesboro Business College and later taught at the Waynesboro Business College. She and her husband, the late Mr. Chester B. Snively, were married August 4, 1928. He passed away March 26, 1964. She entered the nursing home November 10, 2009. Mrs. Snively was a homemaker who was known for being an excellent cook. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing and was an accomplished rose gardener, having entered numerous competitions. She also loved animals, especially Belgian Sheep dogs and she enjoyed painting, especially painting her pets. Mrs. Snively also loved feeding and watching birds. She was a former member of Waynesboro Studio Club, B.P.O. Elks Lodge #731 Ladies Auxiliary, Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary, Antietam Humane Society and several local Bridge clubs. She also served as a local Girl Scout leader and as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Mrs. Snively is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth S. ?Betty? Emery and Barbara S. Leiter, both of Waynesboro; seven grandchildren, Holly Carey, Wendy Eigenbrode, Scott Emery, Edward Leiter, Rev. Dr. David Leiter, Michael Leiter and Julie Zimmerman; 15 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Beulah F. Mumma, Grace M. Thompson, Ruth F. Mumma and Lillian M. DiGiammarino; and two brothers, Paul F. Mumma and Ralph F. Mumma. She was the last of her immediate family. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 29, 2010 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro, with her grandson, the Rev. Dr. David Leiter, officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro [Franklin Co, PA]. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
