Deceased Name: Thomas S. Hagelthorn, Jr.
Mr. Hagelthorn, 86, of Charlotte, died Monday, November 3, 2003 at Carolinas Medical Center.
Born November 26, 1916 in Brooklyn, New York, Thomas was the son of the late Thomas and Jennie Bjorkstrom Hagelthorn. Following the death of his parents during the Depression, Mr. Hagelthorn was raised by his aunt and educated in New York. During World War II, he served with the US Army and obtained the rank of Master Sergeant. At the end of his tour of duty, Mr. Hagelthorn was requested by the US Army to use his skills to served as a court reporter during the Nuremberg Trials. Thomas had been employed as an office manager for Kennecott Copper Corporation in New York, and following his retirement relocated to Charlotte in 1996. He tried his skills as an entrepreneur, owing a hamburger stand, antique shop, and buying and selling cars. Mr. Hagelthorn was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey, in March of 1998.
He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Hagelthorn and Lynn Huray and husband Dan, and grandsons, Stephen and Thomas Lamb.
The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Unity Church, 1901 NW BLue Parkway, Unity Village, MO 64065-0001, or Shepherd's Center, P.O. Box 6052, Charlotte, NC 28207.
Services will take place Saturday, November 8th at 6:30 p.m. at Carolina Funeral Service & Cremation Center, 5505 Monroe Road.
