Robert and an associate were killed when the plan Robert was piloting crashed in the Shenandoah mountains. The crash occurred in a rugged part of the mountains and the wreckage and bodies were not disovered unitl 14 November, 1973 by some hunters.

Robert Mumma
Robert E. Mumma lived at 24 Millersville Road. Born in Denver, he was the son of Mabel Roppold Mumma, Rothsville, and the late Jacob H. Mumma.
He was the owner of the Console and Keyboard Studio, west of Lancaster.
He was a member of the Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Rothsville, and a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Army.
A member of the Ephrata Masonic Lodge, he was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Reading Consistory. He was also a member of the musicians union of Lancaster.
Besides his mother, he is survived by one daughter, Wendy Lynn, Lancaster. Two sisters also survive: Betty, wife of Dr. Arthur Griswold, Lititz: and Annette, wife of Robert Nation, Elizabethtown.
2 Bodies in Plane Identified
Medical examiners in Virginia have officially certified that two bodies found Tuesday in the wreckage of a small airplane are the remains of a Lancaster area man and woman.
Dr. David Oxley, deputy chief medical examiner for western Virginia, said the two bodies, judging by personal effects found at the scene, are those of Robert E. Mumma, 51, of 24 Millersville Road, and Mrs. Barbara Powers, 44, Lititz R4. Mumma and Mrs. Powers have been missing since April 9 when their small plane disappeared on a flight from Lancaster to Atlanta.
HEAVILY WOODED
The site of the plane crash was discovered Monday by hunters in a heavily wooded area of the Blue Ridge Mountains, eight miles southwest of Floyd, Va., just north of the North Carolina state line.
Mumma Died Day of Crash
Funeral arrangements for Robert E. Mumma, 51, of 24 Millersville Road have been completed.
Mumma was the Lancaster pilot whose plane crashed in the mountains of Virginia on April 9, 1973. His body was discovered by hunters and later recovered by state police helicopters.
It has been ruled that Mumma actually died on the date of the crash.
