Obituary - Jeanette Thelma Muma

Jeanette Thelma Muma passed away at Weyburn, SK., on Wednesday, December 26, 2001, at the age of 87 years. She was born on a farm five miles West of Marquis, SK., and 4 miles South of Keeler, SK., (this location is now known as "Gallaghers' Corner"), on March 23, 1914. She attended the West Marquis School. After graduating from school Thelma went to Teacher's College in Moose Jaw. On July 31, 1937, she married Arthur Edwin Muma of Keeler, SK. They lived at many different locations including Primate, Drinkwater, Wood Mountain, Flaxcombe, Morse, Spring Valley and Estevan. In Estevan, SK., Thelma worked in the rural municipal office as the assistant. During her time in Estevan she was on the board of the St. Paul's United Church, taught Sunday school, was very active with the United Church Women, and a member of the Eastern Star. While being a member of the Eastern Star she was the Grand Representative to the State of Ohio. She and Art enjoyed entertaining, playing bridge and visiting with friends and family until they were forced by ill-health to move to the Crocus Plains Villa in Weyburn, SK. After Art's death Thelma moved to the Souris Valley Extended Care Home, Weyburn, SK.
Thelma was predeceased by her father, James Edgar (Ted) Gallagher and mother, Elizabeth (Lizzy) Gallagher (nee McCoy), one brother, Robert Gallagher, one sister, Olive Staite; three brothers-in-law, Lawrence Watson, Reg Watson and Larry Staite; and her husband Arthur. Thelma will be lovingly remembered by her two sons: Lloyd (Janie) Muma of Weyburn and James (Julie) Muma of Calgary; five grand children: Dana Muma (Peter Steckhan), Scott (Tina) Muma and Kelsey Muma, all of Saskatoon, Jodi Muma and Jason Muma, both of Calgary; two great grand daughters, Jenna Muma of Calgary and Emily Muma of Saskatoon; three sisters: Louise Watson of Avonlea, Elsie Watson of Saskatoon, and Dorothy (Jim) Rhoades of Calgary, Alberta; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held on Saturday, December 29, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. from Grace United Church, Weyburn, with Gary Goran officiating minister. Interment followed in Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn, SK. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. The active pallbearers were Scott Muma, Kelsey Muma, Peter Steckhan, Lou Stang, Ron Watson and Mike Weisshaar. Donations may be made in Thelma's memory to a charity of choice.
