[Washington DC Evening Star, Friday, September 23, 1864:]
SUDDEN DEATH --- Mr. David Mumma, a well known butcher, residing on Britton street, near Monument, was drafted from the Eighth ward and in consequence thereof became greatly excited. For some months past he has been suffering from a painful disease, which somewhat prostrated his nervous system, and this, added to the excitement produced by his being drafted, resulted in his death at an early hour yesterday morning. The deceased was highly respected by a wide circle of friends. --- Balt. Sun, 22d.
