[There is an interesting newspaper article int the 27 August 1896 Daily Nevada State Journal which described a transcontinental horseback relay contest carrying a message from California to New York. In that article, a Machomich is mentioned.]
"INCIDENTS,
Charlie Hamp rode from Truckee (Nevada County, CA near Boca) to Verdi (just inside the Nevada State boundry) with Machomich, who has been puffed as the crackerjack mountain rider. Both rode well and did good work over a rough road. Charlie says that Machomich can beat him sprinting, but he can ride away from him and he demonstrated this by reaching Verdi six minutes ahead of him, Had Charlie been carrying the packet he could have turned it over to Lake, and the latter would have nearly reached Laughton's by the time Machomich reached Verdi.
[I believe the Machomich mentioned in this article is either James D. Machomich (age 23) or his brother, Alden Machomich (age 22). They were living in Boca at that time and Boca is only a few miles from Truckee]
Alden's WWI draft registration (1917-1918) filed in Plumas County, CA is available on-line. It confirms his birth date and name of Alden Machomich. His closest relative is listed as Mava L. Machomich. His occupation is listed as self employed, hotel & resort, Clio, Plumas County & Gold Lake. His permenant address is Clio.

In a 1912 report by the California Dept of Fish and Game, it says that A. Machomich received 18,000 rainbow trout. (Must have been for planting in Gold Lake since he operated the Gold Lake Lodge.)
Apparently Alden also had a stage line according to a report in the California State Archives

Alden's name is found in about 40 Plumas County newspapers - "Plumas National", primarily between 1909 and 1925. Mostly listing his Hotel as a voting place or when he applied for a liquor license. Once he was in court in 1921 when there was a fellow clained Alden was running a still. No charges were filed. He also was delinquint on property taxes for property in Clio - it appears it was sold for $60.
One article in the June 3, 1920 Newpaper announced that he and several others had acquired new cars. He has a Hudson.
He is buried in the Newcastle Cemetery, Newcastle, Placer County, CA

Interesting that his birth year is listed as 1875 on his tombstone, but 1874 in the California death index.
