Guardian filed pension claim for children which was granted. Demanda's two children are enumerated in the 1870 and 1880 census with their grandparents, Samuel and Sarah Johnson.
Demanda applied for a pension in June 1865 but the pension file indicates she died on July 16, 1866. Their two children were eventually awarded pensions until age 16.
Their children were: Mary Alice, b: Feb 15, 1862 and William Alvah, b: October 13, 1864. The dates attested by William Abernethy, M.D. (per Pension Record). Interestingly, William Alvah's birth date indicates he was conceived during his father's leave from the hospital.
