MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Harold H. Ryder. 78, of 2413 Lemar Road. died Sunday. Oct. 19. 1997. at Franklin County Nursing Home, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born July 19, 1919, in Fort Loudon, Pa., he was the son of the late Simon M. and Grace Mumma Ryder.
He was employed for 32 years at Letterkenny Army Depot, where he was a truck driver in the ammunition area. retiring in 1974.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Charlestown United Methodist Church, Cove Gap, Pa. He enjoyed reading and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Vernona Layton Ryder, whom he married Oct. 7, 1939; two daughters, Jane Shaffer of Chambersburg, and Alma Blum of Butler, Pa.; one son. H. Henry Ryder of Greencastle, Pa.; four sisters, Dorothy Bryan and Betty Dorty, both of Mercersburg, Ruth Strait of Stockton. Md., and Janet Will mart of Chambersburg: two brothers, William Ryder and Charles Ryder, both of Mercersburg; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Freda McLucas; and two brothers, Clarence Ryder and John Ryder.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m, at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. The Rev. Samuel L. Sheffler and the Rev. Milton W. Benny Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg.
A viewing will be held at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
