Cecil R. Messmore, 74, of 87 S. Lincoln St., died Friday morning at Wooster Community Hospital following a short illness. He was born Nov. 25, 1908 in Wayne County. Mr. Messmore was a former line supervisor for Holmes-Wayne Electric Co-Op in Millersburg, retiring after 30 years. He was a member of the board of trustees of the co-op. He also belonged to the United Methodist Church of West Salem and was a past member of West Salem Council and West Salem Cemetery Board.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Schaum Messmore, whom he married June 3, 1933; two sons, Robert of California and Roger of West Salem; two daughters, Mrs. David (Kathleen) Howman and Mrs. Charles (Phyllis) Barnette, both of West Salem; two sisters, Vera Gruver of West Salem and Thelma Slaybaugh of Florida; one brother, Oliver of Marblehead and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Larry.
Private services will be held Monday with the Rev. Neal Wilds officiating. Burial will be in West Salem Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Matteson Funeral Home, West Salem. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of the United Methodist Church, West Salem.
