PIQUA ? Edward F. Mumaw Jr., age 87, went to be with his Lord on Friday June 26, 2015, at 6:10 p.m. at Heartland of Piqua Nursing Home.
He was born on Dec. 23, 1927, in Piqua, Ohio, to the late Edward F. and Rebecca B. (Harden) Mumaw. He married Dorothy M. Price on Sept. 24, 1949, in Covington, Kentucky, and she survives.
Ed is also survived by three daughters, Cynthia Huelskamp, Piqua, Ohio, Diane Grunkemeyer, Piqua, Ohio, and Linda Spain, Salisbury, North Carolina; one sister, Ollie Jones, Houston, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Amy Jo (Lewis) Kurzawa, Piqua, John "JJ" (Shaundra) Grunkemeyer, Andrew Huelskamp, Angela Spain, Doug (Karen) Spain, Matthew (Ashley) Spain, Jackie (Sam) Grise, Jerry Huelskamp and Jenni (Matt) Spangler; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Basil Mumaw, three sisters, Mary Jane Mumaw, Evelyn Schiek and Hazel Burnside, a granddaughter, Abigail Franks, two sons-in-law, Jim Huelskamp and John Grunkemeyer, and a granddaughter-in-law, Andrea Huelskamp.
Ed graduated from Piqua Central High School in 1951 after proudly serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Piqua. He was also a life member of the Piqua VFW Post 4874 And Piqua American Legion Post 184. He was also a member of Hobart Corp. Quarter Century Club. Ed worked for Hobart Corporation in Troy, Ohio, for 41 years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday July 1, 2015, at 10 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Piqua, Ohio, with the Rev. Thomas Bolte and the Rev. Angelo Caserta as Celebrants. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua with full military honors presented by The Veterans Elite Tribute Squad.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday 4 to 8 p.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua, Ohio. A prayer service will be held on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
