Stanley Gould "Byrd" Mumaw, 74, of Woodstock, VA passed away at his home on Friday, April 22, 2011.
A memorial service will be held Sat. April 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Wakeman's Grove Church of the Brethren. Fred Garber of Wakeman's Grove Church will officiate.
Mr. Mumaw was born in Edinburg, VA on December 14, 1936, a son of the late Byrd Mumaw Sr. and Cleta Pence Mumaw. He was a 1957 graduate of Edinburg High School and worked at Irvin Candy Co. in Edinburg as a warehouse worker and had been employed at Edinburg Aileen. He worked all his life as a farmer working for Indian Fort Stock Farm, Lyle and Frances Gerow Chicken Farm, Rolling Acres Farm and for Phil Bowman's Farm. He was a longtime Shenandoah County umpire and enjoyed bowling and watching sports and westerns on TV.
He is survived by his sons, William Mumaw and wife Vickie of Edinburg, and Garland Mumaw of Edinburg and fianc?, Cheri Romick; longtime companion and caregiver Elaine Fadely of Woodstock; daughter, Cindy Lohr of Broadway; two sisters, Kathleen Huffman and Lena Mae Hollar both of Maurertown and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Mumaw was preceded in death by brothers, Jack Pence, Charles "Bud" Mumaw, Byrd Mumaw Jr., and sisters, Hazel Wright, Mabel Bergeron, Dorothy Kibler and Betty Copenhaver.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 30, 2011 from 9:30-10:45 am at the church.
