"George McClellen Mumma, 82, of 821 Virginia Ave. in Hagerstown, and Avalon Manor, died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Washington County Hospital. Born Dec. 4, 1918, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Daniel Gehr and Theresa Belle Zimmerly Mumma. He was employed by Plumbers Steam Fitters Local 486, Baltimore, retiring in 1982. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of AMVETS in Hagerstown. He had a private pilot's license. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Freda Kreps Mumma; a sister, Audrey Morris of Silver Spring, Md.; three brothers, Hubert G. Mumma, Walter Layman Mumma and Lawrence D. Mumma, all of Hagerstown; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. He was preceded in death by eight sisters and four brothers. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Rodney Nave will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open after 9 a.m. The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Rehoboth United Methodist Church Building Fund, 30 E. Salisbury St., Williamsport, MD 21795; or to Salvation Army, 534 W. Franklin St., Hagerstown, MD 21740."
